CES takes place at the beginning of January each year and has built a reputation of being the world’s gathering place for all those who thrive on the business of consumer technologies. It has served as the proving ground for innovators and breakthrough technologies for 50 years — the global stage where next-generation innovations are introduced to the marketplace.
Garmin attends CES each year to showcase the latest and greatest in consumer wearable’s, GPS devices and in car dash cams. This year, Garmin has taken CES as an opportunity to announce the new Garmin Speak Plus, a brand new dash cam with an awesome new feature:
For those who don’t know, Alexa is Amazon’s voice-command system. It lets you speak your wishes to an Alexa enabled device and see them fulfilled instantly. Garmin has integrated a bunch of great commands that will simplify your driving experience. Here are some of the key commands integrated by Garmin:
- Ask Alexa in your car to play music from Amazon Music, Pandora®, SiriusXM® and more; additional streaming services, such as Spotify®, are expected to be added as available
- Use Garmin turn-by-turn navigation by saying, “Alexa, ask Garmin … ”
- Ask Alexa to create to-do lists, check your calendar or weather/traffic, control smart home devices and entertain passengers with interactive games
- The Garmin Speak app works with your Bluetooth®-enabled smartphone and a suitable cellular data connection; use your phone’s Bluetooth or an AUX cable to stream Alexa responses, including music, right through your car stereo
Alexa lives in the cloud, so it’s always getting smarter, adding new capabilities that are delivered to your device automatically.
The Speak Plus will incorporate a Full HD 1080p front facing camera, recording at 30 frames per second (fps).
The integrated dash cam includes Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) functionality, including lane guidance warnings, forward collision warnings, and go alerts if stopped traffic ahead begins to move forward. These features are designed to provide extra assistance for the driver, creating safer and simpler driving trips.
The Garmin Speak Plus is currently available for pre-order, with orders expected to ship in mid-Feburary.
